The
Orsi Company originated from the musicianship and
manufacturing skill of the brilliant clarinetist,
Prof. Romeo Orsi.
Prof. Romeo Orsi (1843-1918)
was born in Como, Italy. As a young man he studied
clarinet at the Royal Conservatory of Milan, where
he received a Diploma when he was just 20. He soon
began playing with “La Scala" theatre
orchestra in Milan, where he first became Assistant
Principal, then Principal Clarinet. Moreover he
was nominated Clarinet Teacher at Royal Conservatory
of Milan.
Prof. Romeo Orsi also began building
and improving clarinets and, thanks to several
orders of this instrument, he joined forces with
Paolo Maino's modest factory giving birth to the
Maino & Orsi company. The Maino and Orsi factory
developed a broad range of wind instruments.
In
1881, during a competition proclaimed by the War
Ministry, all Italian band instrument manufacturers
presented samples of every instrument for examination
by the esteemed Royal Army Bands. All the samples
presented by the Orsi factory excelled in the competitions
and received private tenders by the Technical Office.
Since that time the business become Prof. Romeo
Orsi’s exclusive property and continued to
expand.
Over the years, Orsi provided
special instruments for the works of musical masters
Mascagni, Puccini, Leoncavallo, Giordano, Montemezzi,
Giuseppe Verdi and many others. Prof. Orsi’s industrial-artistic
capabilities were highly regarded and the instruments
from Orsi received the highest commendations. This
heritage continues today.
